Positron AI Inc. has secured $875 million in a funding round led by NEA, Atreides Management, Valor Equity Partners, Andra Capital, SemiAnalysis Capital, and Jim Clark. The company is now valued at $5 billion, marking a fivefold increase since February.
The startup develops inference appliances that replace expensive HBM memory with LPDDR5X, a standard smartphone memory type. Positron claims its hardware architecture utilizes over 90% of LPDDR5X throughput, compensating for the lower theoretical bandwidth compared to HBM.
The flagship Titan system features up to 18.4 terabytes of LPDDR5X memory and 23.68 terabits per second of bandwidth. It is powered by the custom Asimov chip, which uses a systolic array design with co-located memory to store LLM weights and handle activation functions.
A single Titan unit can support an LLM with 32 trillion parameters and a 10-billion-token context window. Clusters can scale up to 16,384 accelerators. Simulations suggest a server rack using this silicon can process 26 times more tokens per dollar than Nvidia's Blackwell GB300 NVL72.
Positron plans to tape out the Asimov chip using TSMC’s three-nanometer process by the end of 2026, with mass production scheduled for the second half of 2027. The company will also build a two-megawatt engineering data center for hardware testing.
