Portal Space Systems has confirmed the successful launch of its Starburst-1 spacecraft, which reached orbit via the SpaceX Bandwagon-5 mission. The satellite has established communication with ground control and successfully deployed its solar arrays.

CEO Jeff Thornburg stated that the mission is currently 80% successful, with full mission success expected following the activation of the onboard ammonia-propulsion system. The company has reported a significant increase in demand from commercial customers since the launch.

The spacecraft carries three payloads, including Space Armor, which will be tested for debris impact resistance. The company is currently finalizing negotiations with three prospective commercial clients interested in the Starburst platform.

Portal has relocated to a new 65 000-sq.-ft. facility in Bothell, Washington, transitioning from its previous 6 000-sq.-ft. site. The new manufacturing plant is designed to produce 28 spacecraft annually, including 16 Starburst and 12 Supernova models.
