The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has partnered with the nonprofit organization CALSTART to launch a $45 million incentive program. The initiative aims to support the transition of heavy-duty truck fleets operating at the port to zero-emission vehicles.
The funding package allocates $39 million for point-of-sale vouchers. These funds cover the purchase of zero-emission drayage trucks, yard tractors, and the necessary charging infrastructure. Additionally, over $5 million is dedicated to building five new EV charging hubs within a 10-mile radius of the port facilities.
The programs, known as the Clean Truck Incentive Program and the Green Drayage Accelerator, are part of a broader $451 million grant awarded to the Port Authority by the US EPA Clean Ports Program. This grant represents the largest sustainability funding in the history of the Port Authority.
The initiative also includes a $3 million planning grant to establish a Port Community Advisory Council. These efforts align with the Port Authority's goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, providing financial support for tenants and contractors to modernize their equipment.
