Porsche CEO Michael Leiters confirmed that the company plans to launch a combustion-engine version of the Macan in 2028. This decision is part of a broader strategy to maintain a dual lineup of internal combustion engine and electric vehicles, rather than abandoning electrification efforts.

Leiters emphasized that the company aims to avoid redundant investments by not competing against itself within the same market segments. He noted that previous challenges stemmed from over-investing in electrification before market demand had fully matured.

The executive clarified that the Porsche 911 remains the only model excluded from the dual-powertrain strategy, reiterating that a fully electric version of the 911 will not be produced. Meanwhile, development of the electric 718 model continues independently.

Addressing concerns regarding market balance, Leiters stated that combustion engines remain attractive to premium vehicle buyers. He expressed confidence that the upcoming Macan strategy will provide customers with a balanced choice between electric and traditional powertrains.
