Porsche has successfully produced battery cells using 100% recycled cathode active materials. The project is part of the company's initiative to establish a closed-loop circular economy for high-voltage batteries. The automaker is currently conducting vehicle tests to ensure these cells meet performance standards.
The pilot project is being carried out in collaboration with the German battery recycling firm cylib. The partnership, which began in May, utilizes a water-based recycling process to recover key materials including lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese from Porsche's own high-voltage batteries.
While the company has not yet set a timeline for integrating these recycled cells into mass-produced vehicles, it plans to supply recovered raw materials to its partners starting in 2028. Porsche intends to use these recycled resources for future high-voltage battery production in Europe.
