Porsche is reportedly developing a new supercar, internally codenamed S1, which may feature a flat-eight gasoline engine. The vehicle is expected to be positioned above the 911 in the company's lineup. Reports suggest the starting price for the model will be around €500 000.

The project marks a potential return to supercars for the manufacturer, following the end of 918 Spyder production in June 2015. While Porsche previously tested a prototype with a 5.0-liter twin-turbo flat-eight engine producing 750 horsepower and 1 000 Nm of torque, that specific project did not reach production.

The development of the S1 aligns with Porsche's strategy to maintain profitability while potentially reducing overall sales volume. CEO Michael Leiters has previously stated that the company aims to generate profit even with fewer vehicle sales.

Investors may receive a preview of the S1 during the company's Capital Markets Day scheduled for October 7. The event is also expected to cover updates on other models, including the 718 electric vehicles, a new crossover, and a three-row SUV positioned above the Cayenne.
