A user on Reddit reported that PNY denied a warranty claim for a GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card after the 16-pin 12V-2x6 power connector melted. The damage affected both ends of the cable, and the PC stopped detecting the GPU following the incident.

The card was powered by an ASRock PG-1600G 1600W unit compliant with the ATX 3.1 standard. The owner used the native 12V-2x6 cable provided with the power supply, without any adapters or splitters. The user noted that the card was not overclocked and had its power limit reduced.

PNY rejected the claim immediately, citing the use of a non-approved cable. The company stated that damage caused by third-party cables is not covered by the warranty. However, the official warranty documentation does not explicitly mandate the use of PNY-branded cables.

The current refusal contradicts previous guidance from a PNY representative. About a year ago, the company stated that using native 12V-2x6 cables from power supplies instead of included adapters would not void the warranty, highlighting a discrepancy in the manufacturer's support policy.
