Startup Pascal has secured $8.5 million in a follow-on seed funding round. The investment was co-led by Sazze Partners and LB Investment, with participation from KDB Silicon Valley.

The company is developing solid-state refrigeration technology that utilizes a proprietary sponge-like material. According to CEO Adam Slavney, this system is designed to be approximately 20% more efficient than current cooling models.

Pascal has already signed a contract with a multinational beverage company for a pilot project. The startup expects to deliver its first prototype early next year, with a commercial batch of refrigerators planned for 2028.

The technology works by compressing carbon dioxide into cartridges containing the porous material. The system has been tested through 300,000 cycles, which the company equates to roughly one year of operation.
