Panasonic has officially moved up its timeline for the mass production of glass-based perovskite solar cells. The company now expects to begin full-scale manufacturing in April 2029, a year earlier than the previously announced 2030 fiscal year target.

The company initiated the sale of pilot production models in September 2024. These units are currently being manufactured at the company's research and development facility located in Moriguchi City, Osaka Prefecture, serving as a precursor to the main production line in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture.

The product is designed to integrate into urban environments where rooftop space is limited. By utilizing windows and walls for power generation, these solar cells offer an alternative to traditional rooftop installations while maintaining architectural aesthetics.

To meet construction standards, the cells are engineered for durability, ease of installation, and adjustable dimensions. Panasonic utilizes proprietary material technologies, inkjet coating processes, and laser processing to ensure flexibility in transparency and design.
