New York-based cybersecurity startup Outerlimit has exited stealth mode, securing $16 million in a pre-seed funding round announced on September 22. This investment marks one of the largest early-stage capital raises for a company in the cybersecurity sector.
The funding round was led by AlbionVC, Evolution Equity Partners, and Crane Venture Partners. Additional participation came from angel investors associated with Mistral AI and Goldman Sachs. The company was founded by CEO Tony Pepper, Neil Larkins, and CTO Dr. Peter Vincent.
Outerlimit focuses on securing AI agents by implementing real-time guardrails. Its platform features three primary functions: Discover, which identifies AI tools in enterprise environments; Observe, which monitors behavior; and Enforce, which applies policies during actions.
The system utilizes a distributed architecture with cryptographic enforcement to manage access credentials. Instead of centralized storage, credentials are fragmented and reassembled only when the agent's identity, policy compliance, and execution context are verified.
