Researchers at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory have introduced Motor Decide, a platform for evaluating electric motor technologies. It assesses options based on performance, material availability, supply chain stability, and technology maturity.

The system utilizes super intelligence, modeling, and scenario analysis to simulate impacts of fluctuating material costs or supply chain disruptions. It provides a ranked list of technologies, detailing costs, risks, and manufacturability.

Motor Decide functions alongside the Motor AI platform. Once a manufacturer selects a technology, data can be transferred to Motor AI to generate detailed engineering specifications and design configurations.

The project lead, Praveen Kumar, stated that the tool aims to shift industry decision-making from market trends toward data-driven analysis. It quantifies uncertainty to support long-term planning for manufacturers.
