Oracle co-CEO Clay Magouyrk reported that while generative AI tools reduced specific coding tasks from two-to-three quarters to approximately one week, overall product delivery timelines remain unchanged. The company identified testing, validation, deployment, and release management as the new primary bottlenecks in its development cycle.

The company reached an 80% adoption rate for OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Codex tools following their deployment in spring 2026. This transition followed a year of limited AI usage across developer, finance, and sales departments.

During fiscal 2026, Oracle reduced its headcount by 13%, decreasing from 162,000 to 141,000 employees. SEC filings attribute these 21,000 job cuts to restructuring and AI-driven efficiency efforts. The company incurred estimated severance and exit costs of $1,84 billion.

Oracle continues to invest tens of billions of dollars into AI data centers and cloud infrastructure to support both internal operations and external customers. Despite these capital commitments and partnerships with firms like OpenAI, the company is still working to translate AI adoption into faster product cycles and new revenue streams.
