At the DevDay Exchange 2026 in Berlin, OpenAI provided updates on the European rollout of its AI assistant, Dots. Romain Huet, head of developer experience, stated that the service will become more widely available in Europe within a few weeks, pending discussions with regulators. Currently, access remains restricted for Personal Pro accounts in the UK, Switzerland, and the European Economic Area, though some business accounts already have access.

The company reported that weekly active users of Codex in Germany have increased twentyfold since January 2026. OpenAI noted that nearly one in five desktop users utilizes the tool for office tasks like documents and spreadsheets. Regarding video capabilities, management stated that a model for video sequences is not a priority, as customer demand is low, and the Sora generator remains offline due to high resource requirements.

OpenAI is focusing on building a platform ecosystem to lock in developers and businesses. By utilizing the Agents API, the company manages the infrastructure itself, while plugins and web apps allow developers to distribute their products. OpenAI claims to provide access to 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users, positioning its model as an app store where the company handles distribution and infrastructure.

To manage the rising demand for processor power caused by AI-generated code, OpenAI maintains a dedicated team that reviews internal codebases weekly. While the company keeps its runtime, Codex Harness, as open source, it emphasizes that developers relying on its managed services and platform-specific integrations will find it difficult to switch ecosystems in the future.
