OpenAI introduced Dots, a new personal agentic assistant powered by the GPT-6 Astra model, during the company's Dev Day event held in San Francisco. The agents are designed to operate independently in the background, pursuing user-defined goals with minimal oversight.

Starting Tuesday, Dots are available for ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets. Users can interact with these agents through platforms such as Slack and Microsoft Teams, with support for text messaging expected to be added in the near future.

The company plans to enable teams of Dots to work together on behalf of users. OpenAI is currently collaborating with Microsoft to integrate Dots into the Agent 365 security controls, allowing for the assignment of specific credentials and tools to individual agents.

OpenAI suggests various use cases, such as software developers deploying agents to monitor feedback and implement fixes, or scientists using them to rerun data analysis. The agents feature a cartoonish, floating design intended to make the software more relatable.
