At the Dev Day developer conference in San Francisco, OpenAI introduced a suite of new features for ChatGPT designed for office productivity. The company is shifting its focus toward collaborative software tools, positioning its new offerings as alternatives to established platforms like Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and Microsoft Word.

The new Space feature provides a shared workspace within ChatGPT for teams to collaborate with the chatbot and AI agents known as Dots. These agents are capable of executing tasks on behalf of users, such as monitoring communication channels and updating project pages based on gathered information, with files stored similarly to a local drive.

OpenAI also unveiled Pages, a text editor built for joint work between humans and AI agents. This tool supports writing, research, diagram creation, and image generation. Additionally, the company introduced functionality for generating presentation slides from ChatGPT discussions, allowing multiple users and agents to edit and comment on the content.

The industry is currently seeing a convergence of strategies as major software developers adapt to the evolving landscape. While OpenAI expands into office software, companies like Microsoft and Salesforce are simultaneously integrating more AI-driven products into their existing ecosystems to remain competitive in the market.
