OpenAI has acquired Glass Imaging, a startup specializing in neural image signal processing software. The deal is valued at more than $300 million. Glass Imaging, founded in 2019 by former Apple employees Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop, develops GlassAI, a solution that processes raw sensor data in a single pass to improve image detail.
The software is designed for mobile devices, drones, and wearables. It creates custom neural networks for specific lens and sensor pairings. Testing showed that the neural approach increased resolution measures by more than 50% as pixel sizes decreased. The technology is currently used by Honor Device for zoom features on its 600 series handsets.
Before the acquisition, Glass Imaging raised approximately $29 million in total funding. This included a $20 million Series A round led by Insight Venture Management in May 2025 and a $9.3 million seed extension in 2024. Ziv Attar previously sold his startup LinX Imaging to Apple in 2015 for about $20 million.
This purchase aligns with OpenAI’s broader expansion into consumer hardware. In May 2025, the company acquired Jony Ive’s io Products for $6.5 billion in stock and has since recruited numerous former Apple employees. Reports indicate that OpenAI is currently developing a screenless speaker with an estimated price of $300.
