Nvidia, Google, and Emerald AI have formed the AI Energy Management Alliance, a trade group focused on transforming data centers into active participants for grid stability. The coalition, led by energy policy expert Frank Lacey, also includes Anthropic, NRG, Constellation Energy, AES, and NextEra Energy.
The core technology involves integrating Emerald AI’s Conductor platform with Nvidia’s DSX Flex software. This combination allows data centers to adjust power consumption in real time. Pilot tests using Nvidia’s DSX Flex and Vera Rubin DSX architecture showed load reductions of over 33% in less than one minute.
Practical implementation is already in progress, with Nvidia and Digital Realty building a flexible power facility in Manassas, Virginia, with a capacity of 96 to 100 MW. Google has already integrated 1 GW of demand flexibility into its utility contracts.
The alliance aims to unlock 100 GW of existing US grid capacity, which is comparable to the total generating capacity of all nuclear plants in the United States. This approach seeks to support AI deployment without the need for new infrastructure.
In August 2026, Emerald AI secured $150 million in a Series A funding round, achieving a valuation of $1.05 billion. This investment highlights significant market interest in grid flexibility solutions prior to the formal launch of the alliance.
