Singapore-based Nexstrom Pte. Ltd. secured $12 million in a seed funding round led by Xora Innovation. The round also included participation from SEEDS and Foothill Ventures. This latest investment brings the startup's total funding to $15 million to date.

The company aims to commercialize a proprietary wafer-scale platform designed for 2D semiconductor materials. Nexstrom plans to use the capital to mass-produce 12-inch 2D semiconductor wafers, intended to serve as an alternative to traditional silicon in computer chips.

Nexstrom utilizes a proprietary chemical vapor deposition hardware integrated with a novel process technology. This approach allows the growth of single-crystal 2D materials directly into existing foundry workflows, addressing the industry's need for high-quality, uniform materials on 300-millimeter substrates.

According to co-founder and Chief Scientist Lance Li, the primary industry challenge has been manufacturing 2D materials at the scale and quality required by advanced foundries. Nexstrom claims its platform is the first capable of growing these materials in the quantities necessary for commercial production.
