Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla and SpaceX will independently build and operate the Terafab chip manufacturing facility in Texas. This statement follows public speculation regarding a potential takeover or management role by the Taiwanese contract manufacturer TSMC.
The discussion began after journalist Tim Culpan reported on October 2 that TSMC was exploring options to assist in organizing operations for future chip plants. Musk initially described these interactions as preliminary discussions that might lead to future cooperation.
Under the clarified ownership structure, TSMC will not hold any control over the facility. Musk noted that the company may only be granted access to a portion of the complex through a sublease agreement, while all operational and equipment decisions remain with Tesla and SpaceX.
