Users of the X social network recently reported that their usage limits for the Grok Bot AI agent are being exhausted faster than before. Elon Musk addressed these concerns by suggesting that users upgrade to higher-tier plans, describing the reduction in limits as a reasonable measure to manage operational costs.
Musk acknowledged that the expenses associated with maintaining Grok Bot are disproportionately high relative to the revenue it generates. While he did not disclose specific financial figures or confirm if limits were reduced for paying subscribers, he emphasized the need for cost control.
The service, launched in August 2026, offers various subscription tiers ranging from free options to plans priced at $200 per month. These plans include weekly usage limits, a strategy also utilized by other AI developers to prevent excessive billing and manage infrastructure resources.
During the SpaceX Q3 financial results conference, Musk identified Grok Bot as his fastest-growing product. The company reported 800,000 weekly paying users. Musk noted that as the AI becomes more capable, individual user engagement intensity continues to rise, leading to higher computational demands.
