Most of MTS base stations are technically prepared to support 5G networks. This readiness allows the operator to deploy 5G services on existing LTE frequencies without requiring extensive infrastructure upgrades.

The company intends to follow the construction schedule established by the State Commission for Radio Frequencies. Deployment will occur in two stages, starting with the use of current LTE bands under a technology neutrality regime.

During the initial phase, users may see a 5G indicator on their devices, with data speeds expected to increase by 10–15%. Starting in 2027, the rollout will transition to gigabit networks using domestic equipment in the 4.9 GHz band.

MTS is currently developing a gigabit 5G network in the 4.9 GHz range. Access to this network was launched on September 11 in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, and Ufa, followed by Khabarovsk on October 28.

Implementing 5G on LTE frequencies requires careful resource management, as both fourth and fifth-generation devices will share the same frequency bands.
