MTS has launched a free AI-based protection tool for subscribers in Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. The service notifies family members via SMS or push alerts if their elderly relatives receive suspicious calls, allowing them to intervene before any financial loss or data disclosure occurs.

To activate the feature, users must create a family group in the MTS mobile application and assign the 'elderly' role to a relative. If the AI system detects signs of fraud during an incoming call, the group organizer receives an automatic notification containing details about the caller and the time of the attempt.

Data from the 'Zashchitnik' service indicates high levels of fraudulent activity targeting individuals aged 65 and older. Moscow leads the country with 22% of blocked unwanted calls, while Saint Petersburg and Krasnodar follow with 7%. Nationally, over 85 million fraudulent calls were blocked between January and August 2026.

Fraudsters frequently impersonate representatives from social services, pension funds, and utility companies when contacting elderly residents in Saint Petersburg. The new tool aims to mitigate these risks by providing real-time alerts to family members who can then assist their relatives.
