NVIDIA released the DLSS 5 Neural Rendering model, build 310.9.16.0, alongside the launch of NBA 2K27 on October 16. Modders have successfully extracted the DLL file, enabling its use in games that lack official support for the technology through third-party tools like RenoDX and OptiScaler.
Testing by the Gaming Optimized channel in The Witcher 3 showed performance improvements of up to 90% when switching from the older model to the new version. The updated DLL includes both models as presets, allowing for direct comparisons. Results vary by title, with 90% representing a best-case scenario.
According to NVIDIA, the October update reduces the model size by 24% to approximately 118 million parameters. It also decreases VRAM consumption at 4K resolution by 20% and accelerates neural rendering workloads by up to 2x compared to the September version. In NBA 2K27, frame rates increased by up to 40%.
Officially, DLSS 5 support is restricted to RTX 50-series GPUs and GeForce NOW. NVIDIA intends to expand support to the RTX 40-series, though no timeline has been provided. Meanwhile, modders have already enabled the technology on older hardware, with the OptiScaler documentation confirming compatibility with RTX 20-series cards.
