Midwest Wheel Companies, a century-old distributor of truck parts, is integrating AI agents into its daily operations by utilizing a single-system approach. Senior Vice President Steve McEnany emphasized the importance of maintaining the Infor platform as the primary foundation for all business processes, even when incorporating third-party tools.
The transition to cloud infrastructure allowed the company's IT team to offload server management and software updates. This shift enabled the development of new tools within weeks, including an automated system for scanning emailed PDF invoices and a product recommendation feature integrated into the order entry process.
The company is now focusing on agentic AI capable of resolving operational issues based on predefined business rules. McEnany noted that while AI can handle routine tasks, human oversight remains mandatory for processes involving financial transactions and accounting to ensure accuracy and data integrity.
Infor highlights that industry-specific context is critical for AI success, citing research that suggests generic off-the-shelf AI solutions fail for two out of three businesses. Proper governance and precise prompt engineering are identified as essential components for maintaining reliable AI performance in enterprise environments.
