During the third-quarter earnings call, PNC Financial Services Group CEO Bill Demchak discussed the impact of agentic AI on deposit retention. He noted that AI agents could simplify the movement of funds from non-interest-bearing accounts to higher-yield alternatives, a trend that has been evolving for years.

To remain competitive, PNC plans to develop proprietary technology that matches third-party providers while maintaining cost efficiency and high-quality service. Demchak emphasized that the bank is prioritizing secure authentication and human-in-the-loop protocols, dismissing the immediate possibility of autonomous agents transacting on behalf of users.

The bank has completed significant infrastructure upgrades, including data center rebuilds and new risk frameworks for access control. These measures are designed to support the deployment of AI agents across various internal workloads as part of a broader corporate transformation strategy.

PNC continues to expand its physical and digital presence. In the third quarter, the bank launched a new mobile banking application with improved navigation and design. Additionally, the company is on track to open 55 new branches in 2026, marking its largest annual expansion effort to date.
