Microsoft has updated its Copilot desktop application, restructuring the interface into three primary tabs: Home, Code, and Autopilot. This redesign integrates document creation, application development, and autonomous task management into a single workspace.
The Home tab combines previous chat and collaboration features, allowing users to edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files directly within the Copilot window. The Code tab utilizes GitHub Copilot technology to enable the creation of apps and workflows via natural language prompts.
The Autopilot tab introduces proactive agents, starting with Microsoft Scout, which manages background processes autonomously. These features are currently rolling out through the Frontier program, with Autopilot entering private preview for enterprise clients by the end of September.
The company is shifting toward a usage-based pricing model for advanced capabilities, moving away from traditional flat subscription tiers. Additionally, Microsoft is introducing FinOps tools for AI expenditure management and Work IQ APIs to provide IT departments with governance controls.
