Microsoft is preparing for the official release of the Windows 11 26H2 annual feature update. The update files have already appeared in the latest test builds, indicating that the rollout is in its final stages. Eligible devices may begin receiving notifications within the coming days.
The company continues to use the enablement package model for this release. Devices already running Windows 11 25H2 will receive a small update package that activates hidden features, requiring only a single reboot. Users on older versions will face longer download and installation times as they must first update to the 25H2 platform.
The rollout will follow a phased approach, prioritizing newer hardware platforms with verified compatibility. Microsoft will gradually expand availability based on telemetry data and stability feedback. Some devices, particularly those with specific hardware configurations or enterprise policies, may wait weeks or months for the update.
Windows 11 26H2 focuses on AI integration, performance optimization, and productivity enhancements. It serves as a foundation for deploying Copilot, agents, and local AI capabilities. Microsoft is shifting away from major interface overhauls toward cumulative updates to refine the system architecture and user experience.
