Microsoft is phasing out the Copilot Plus PC branding for its latest hardware releases. Despite meeting the technical system requirements, the new 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop will not carry this label, as confirmed by Microsoft Surface CVP Brett Ostrom.
Qualcomm SVP of compute and gaming Kedar Kondap also indicated that future computers offering similar AI capabilities will likely move away from the Copilot Plus PC name. The industry shift follows criticism regarding the Recall feature and user pushback against aggressive AI marketing.
The company is now pivoting its strategy toward hardware featuring Nvidia chips, which Microsoft claims will define the next phase of personal AI on Windows. Further details regarding the future of local AI integration are expected at a company event scheduled for October 7th.
