Microsoft has released the first firmware update for the Surface Laptop Ultra, identified as System Hardware Update 200.0.7.0. The update was made available on October 22, less than a week after the device began shipping on October 16.
The patch addresses three specific issues: extended reboot times, screen flickering, and unexpected restarts. Microsoft also included general performance improvements and unspecified bug fixes in this release.
The update is being distributed in stages to users. Once installed, the firmware cannot be rolled back. Reports of these issues appeared in early reviews and from owners, including complaints about long reboot times and flickering on the Mini-LED panel.
Despite the update, some hardware concerns remain unaddressed. Reviews noted a 57 ms black-to-white response time, lack of local dimming, and a 0.61-nit black level. Additionally, some users reported overheating during light tasks, which is not covered by this firmware.
