Microsoft has officially extended the support lifecycle for its App-V Server virtualization component. The company will now provide security updates for the software until October 9, 2029.
Originally, the tech giant intended to terminate support for the platform in April 2026. This extension does not signal a return to active development for the product, as Microsoft confirmed no new features or functional changes will be introduced.
The App-V technology, which originated from the acquisition of Softricity and its SoftGrid product, was introduced in 2008 as part of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack. It allows enterprises to distribute Win32 applications to devices via streaming, eliminating the need for full local installations.
