Microsoft has updated the Windows 11 Camera application to version 2026.2608.1.0, introducing a software-based zoom feature for devices lacking hardware zoom capabilities. This tool is designed for video conferencing, online classes, remote consultations, and document scanning, though it remains unavailable for panoramic, spherical, or dynamic recording modes.
The update improves workflow efficiency by allowing users to copy captured media directly to the clipboard using Ctrl+C. Additionally, a new copy path function enables users to quickly retrieve file locations for pasting into documents or messaging apps. These features aim to streamline the management of captured assets across different software environments.
Recording and playback experiences have also been refined. The interface now displays a countdown for delayed shooting and shows remaining time on the progress bar during video playback. Microsoft reports improved responsiveness when starting recordings and has addressed a bug that caused white flickering when opening the app in light mode.
The rollout began on October 2 for users in the Experimental, Experimental (26H1), and Experimental (Future Platforms) channels. Following this initial testing phase, the update has now been expanded to include the Beta and Release Preview channels for a broader user base.
