Meta is reportedly preparing to launch a camera-free version of its Ray-Ban smart glasses, codenamed Luna. The device is expected to debut at the upcoming Meta Connect conference, with a market release scheduled for October. Unlike current models, the Luna will omit cameras to achieve a design closer to traditional eyewear.

The Luna glasses will feature six microphones for voice commands and interaction with Meta AI and the new Muse AI agent. The device will also include built-in speakers for audio playback. By removing the camera, Meta aims to reduce the device's tech-heavy appearance and address privacy concerns related to unauthorized recording.

The company plans to offer two styles, Clubmaster and Burbank, with shipments starting in October. While the camera removal addresses visual privacy issues, the presence of six microphones may raise new concerns regarding audio recording, especially as the device becomes visually indistinguishable from standard glasses.

In addition to the Luna, Meta is expected to showcase a new augmented reality headset codenamed Phoenix at the Connect conference. This device, which aims to project virtual workspaces or screens into the user's field of view, is currently slated for a 2027 release, following the concept design shown in 2024.
