Meta has officially removed a controversial clause from its commercial terms of service. The provision previously stated that the company could utilize content from business account domains, URLs, and web pages to develop, train, and improve its various products and services.

Legal experts had raised concerns that this language granted Meta broad authority to scrape publisher websites for AI model training purposes. The clause drew significant scrutiny given ongoing legal challenges regarding copyright infringement and AI development practices.

A company spokesperson stated that the terms were intended only for advertising and business products. Meta clarified that the removal of the language does not alter its existing web crawling practices or how it manages data collection across its platforms.
