Meta has unveiled two generative AI tools, Horizon Create and Horizon Studio, designed to enable users to build playable 2D and 3D games using natural language prompts. Both tools are built on the Meta Horizon Engine platform and aim to eliminate the need for traditional programming skills or complex software knowledge during the development process.

Horizon Create is a mobile application intended for on-the-go game creation, while Horizon Studio operates as a web-based platform offering more advanced editing capabilities. Users can refine game mechanics, art styles, quest progression, and character systems through text commands, shifting the focus from technical coding to creative direction.

Games developed with these tools can be published directly within the Meta ecosystem, including integration with Facebook and Instagram. This allows creators to distribute their content to Meta's existing user base immediately. The company's vice president of Meta Horizon, Saxs Persson, stated that the platform is intended for creating games with full gameplay depth rather than just prototypes.

Despite the official announcement, Meta has not yet provided a specific release timeline or detailed hardware requirements for the tools. The company has also not showcased a wide range of completed projects, leaving the actual quality and complexity of the AI-generated games to be determined. Data miners first identified references to Horizon Create in the Meta Horizon app code back in August.
