Meta Platforms released the Muse Glimmer AI model on August 10, 2026. The model features approximately 30 billion parameters and is designed to run locally on consumer hardware, such as a Mac or a PC equipped with a single graphics card.

The company intends for Muse Glimmer to handle agentic tasks, including the management of calendars, files, and messages. Unlike the proprietary Muse Spark system, which remains accessible only via API or paid access, Glimmer allows developers to download and modify the model.

Meta plans to release open weights for a version of its advanced system, Muse Spark 1.2, in the weeks following the debut of Glimmer. CEO Mark Zuckerberg accompanied the launch with a 14-page essay advocating for the broad distribution of advanced AI capabilities.

Following the announcement, Meta shares increased by nearly 3% in premarket trading. The company continues to compete with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and various Chinese AI labs in the development of both open-weight and proprietary models.
