Meta launched its AI shopping agent, Muse, on September 8, 2026. The tool operates within an isolated environment called Muse Secure VM, allowing it to browse the web, fill out forms, and execute purchases. The agent requires explicit user approval for sensitive actions and integrates with personal services like email and calendars.
At launch, Muse processes financial transactions through Stripe’s Link service using one-time virtual cards. Meta plans to add support for Shopify’s Shop Pay in the near future. PayPal is currently working to enable its customers to use the agent for global shopping and checkout, though the integration is not yet finalized.
The service is available in the U.S. for users aged 18 and older via web and dedicated apps. Subscription costs range from $20 to $100 per month depending on the functionality. Following its release, the application reached the top of the Apple US App Store rankings.
Amazon restricted Muse from its platform starting September 21, 2026, citing security and privacy concerns. This move limits the agent's utility, as Amazon accounts for a significant portion of U.S. e-commerce. Meta continues to position Muse as a tool for automated commerce, while PayPal explores its own independent AI payment features.
