MegaFon has launched a 5G network in Krasnodar, covering the Krasnodar Park area, including the stadium, amphitheater, Japanese Garden, and Park of Clouds. The signal also extends to adjacent residential blocks and major city streets, such as Vostochno-Kruglikovskaya and Tikhoretskaya.
The operator utilized existing LTE infrastructure to deploy 5G by upgrading base stations to operate on current frequencies. Users with 5G-compatible devices can access the network, while others can utilize a special '5G mode' setting designed to increase internet speeds within LTE networks.
Krasnodar joins a list of cities where MegaFon has commercially deployed 5G, including Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Kazan, Samara, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Veliky Novgorod, and Tver. The park was selected due to high network demand, with summer traffic volume increasing by 20% compared to winter holidays.
MegaFon plans to expand its 5G coverage following this initial phase. The company intends to leverage the new network infrastructure to support business operations, urban development, and various digital industrial services.
