MegaFon has launched a 5G network in Krasnodar, marking the city as one of the first locations in the region to receive the new connectivity standard. The initial deployment focuses on the Krasnodar Park, covering key areas such as the stadium, the Japanese Garden, the amphitheater, and the Cloud Park.
The network coverage extends beyond the park to include adjacent residential areas and major roads, such as Vostochno-Kruglikovskaya, Tikhoretskaya, and Shkolnaya streets. MegaFon utilized its existing LTE infrastructure and technological neutrality to deploy 5G by upgrading current base stations.
Users with 5G-compatible smartphones can access the new network directly. For devices lacking 5G support, the operator introduced a specific 5G mode setting designed to increase mobile internet speeds to levels comparable to 5G, even outside the primary coverage zones.
Stanislav Zavalny, head of the Krasnodar Territory Department of Informatization and Communications, noted that the deployment aims to meet the growing demand for high-speed internet. The infrastructure is intended to support business services, smart city solutions, and stable connectivity during peak loads.
