Mastercard has launched a suite of solutions called Wallet Pay, aimed at improving the user experience and interoperability for digital wallet providers. The platform supports contactless NFC, QR codes, and online payments, allowing providers to integrate credit, debit, and prepaid card programs into their services.

The new infrastructure enables more than 3.7 billion Mastercard credentials to connect with digital wallets. By utilizing cloud-based payment technologies and Mastercard’s global network, providers can implement these features without requiring significant changes to their existing technical systems.

Recent research from PYMNTS Intelligence and PayPal highlights the impact of payment options on consumer behavior. In the United States, approximately 56 million consumers abandoned online shopping carts in the last 30 days due to the absence of their preferred payment methods, with 26 million of these cases linked to missing digital wallet options.

Looking ahead, consumer interest in automated shopping is rising. Data indicates that 43% of consumers are likely to link a digital wallet to an AI agent for purchases within the next two years, provided they retain control over spending limits and purchasing decisions.
