Bluesky plans to integrate payment features into its decentralized social network within the coming months. The company aims to facilitate direct commerce and fundraising activities, allowing users to support content creators monetarily across the entire ecosystem.

CEO Toni Schneider and COO Rose Wang announced the strategy at TechCrunch Disrupt. The leadership team intends to move away from traditional advertising models, focusing instead on infrastructure that enables value to flow directly to the creators.

Schneider assumed the role of CEO in March, succeeding Jay Graber. The company operates as a Public Benefit Corporation, which the executives state prevents user lock-in and prioritizes the distribution of revenue to those generating value on the platform.

The platform's approach is modeled after the ecosystem built by Automattic, where a significant portion of revenue is distributed back to the community. Executives emphasized that the new payment tools are intended to function across various applications within the network.
