The Open Source Summit Europe in Prague, organized by the Linux Foundation, highlighted digital sovereignty as a strategic priority for European organizations. Data from a recent Linux Foundation survey indicates that over 90 per cent of these organizations view digital sovereignty as a critical component of their technology strategy.

The Linux Foundation reports that companies implementing formal open source governance see an average return on investment of more than four times, compared to 3.6 times for those lacking such structures. The organization encourages European firms to transition from passive consumption to active participation in open source communities.

The shift toward open source is supported by EU initiatives like the Tech Sovereignty Package and the Cyber Resilience Act. Experts note that while open source requires investment in expertise, it allows companies to tailor software to their specific needs and reduce reliance on single vendors or foreign technology.

AI integration is rapidly transforming software development practices. GitHub data from October shows that one in three pull requests now involves an AI agent, a significant increase from less than one in ten a year ago. Despite this growth, over 80 per cent of developers express concerns regarding the accuracy of data from AI models.
