Lightning Labs has integrated support for Taproot Assets into its Wavelength toolkit, enabling the transfer of assets alongside Bitcoin. Wavelength, an SDK for self-custodial payments in applications and AI agents, launched on the Bitcoin mainnet on October 23, 2026, following an alpha phase that began in July 2026.
The system utilizes Ark-style batching and virtual transaction outputs (VTXOs) to facilitate off-chain transfers. To ensure asset legitimacy, the architecture employs compact proofs and client-side validation, anchoring off-chain transaction history to a commitment on the Bitcoin blockchain.
During the initial phase, Lightning Labs has implemented usage limits for the platform. Each account is capped at 300,000 sats, while individual VTXOs are limited to 50,000 sats. These measures are part of the ongoing development of the Taproot Assets protocol, which reached version 0.8 in June 2026.
The integration aims to support future stablecoin transactions over Bitcoin rails. Users must maintain updated software to manage security, as client-side validation requires local verification of asset history. The company previously required client upgrades before block 971,750.
