Amboss co-founder Jesse Shrader demonstrated real-time transfers of USDT and USDC stablecoins over the Bitcoin Lightning Network. The process utilizes the Taproot Assets protocol, allowing digital assets to move across Lightning channels and settle on the Bitcoin base layer.
The company integrated Taproot Assets support into its core products: Rails, RailsX, and the Payments API. These tools facilitate self-custodial liquidity, peer-to-peer atomic swaps, and multi-asset routing, enabling users to exchange Bitcoin for stablecoins during transactions.
The Payments API allows businesses to manage BTC, USDT, and USDC settlements through a single interface. Amboss introduced RailsX at the PlanB Forum in El Salvador in January 2026, with early access for users starting in late April 2026.
Amboss aims to address liquidity challenges in multi-asset routing, where channels require sufficient funds to process transactions. The development of Taproot Assets throughout 2026 included SDK upgrades and progress toward mainnet readiness for asset minting and transfers.
