Lexus has officially confirmed that the TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid will be discontinued after the 2026 model year. The vehicle, which was introduced in 2024, will not be part of the 2027 lineup, leaving the series with only two powertrain options instead of three.
For the 2027 model year, the TX range will consist solely of the gasoline-powered TX 350 and the hybrid TX 500h. The TX 350 starts at $58 890, while the TX 500h begins at $72 410. Lexus has not provided a public explanation for the decision to remove the plug-in hybrid variant.
The market shift follows a trend where conventional hybrids in the three-row luxury crossover segment consistently outsell plug-in models. The TX 550h+ previously qualified for federal electric vehicle tax credits, a benefit that will no longer be available to buyers of the remaining 2027 TX models.
Lexus is shifting its focus for plug-in customers to the upcoming TZ, an all-electric three-row SUV scheduled for release in 2027. This new model will feature all-wheel drive and serve as the brand's primary battery-electric alternative for those seeking a vehicle with a charging port.
