During the 2026 Leapmotor Technology Day, CEO Zhu Jiangming stated that the company is currently focusing on automation scenarios rather than humanoid robotics. While Leapmotor has developed internal humanoid prototypes, the company is prioritizing commercial viability and scalability over mere demonstration of capabilities.
Leapmotor has achieved full in-house development of core robotic components, including motors, controllers, batteries, and perception algorithms. The company is currently testing these systems but emphasizes that the technology is in its early stages of maturity, comparing its development to a child that needs to grow before it can perform professional tasks.
Zhu Jiangming argued that non-humanoid robots, such as wheeled or transformable designs, are likely to provide more practical value. He noted that walking is an inefficient form of movement compared to wheeled transport, and the company aims to simplify designs to reduce costs and energy consumption while leveraging AI for new growth opportunities.
