Kojima Productions is continuing the development of the action-espionage game Physint after Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) withdrew its funding in June. The project was officially announced during the January 2024 State of Play event, with the goal of blurring the lines between cinema and gaming.

Following the termination of the partnership with PlayStation on September 10, Xbox stepped in to take over publishing duties. Hideo Kojima confirmed at the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast that Swedish actor Bill Skarsgard will star in the title. The studio is currently in the early planning and testing stages.

Kojima noted that the sudden loss of funding posed a significant risk to the studio, which employs approximately 200 people. Without a new publishing deal, the company faced potential layoffs and financial instability. The team is currently balancing work between Physint and the project OD.

Xbox will provide both financial backing and technical support for the development of the new IP. Kojima emphasized that there is no conflict with Sony despite the abrupt end to their 30-year collaboration. The studio also refuted Bloomberg reports regarding budget overruns and profitability concerns.
