Sony has expanded its high-end Walkman lineup with the launch of the Signature series flagship NW-WM1ZM3, the NW-WM1AM3, and the NW-ZX900. The flagship NW-WM1ZM3 is priced at $5,899, making it the most expensive digital music player currently offered by the company. The NW-WM1AM3 costs $2,999.99, while the NW-ZX900 is available for $1,899.99.
The flagship NW-WM1ZM3 features a chassis made of 99.99% pure oxygen-free copper with a gold-plated finish, including gold-plated screws for improved grounding. All three models are currently available for pre-order in the United States through Sony's official website and retail partners.
Technically, the new players incorporate S-Master HX digital amplification and a DSD remastering engine capable of upsampling PCM audio to 11.2MHz DSD. This feature is now compatible with both local files and Wi-Fi streaming. The WM1 series models have also been upgraded with dual high-capacity solid polymer capacitors and hand-soldered oxygen-free copper wiring to enhance power stability.
Battery life and display sizes vary across the new lineup. The NW-WM1ZM3 and NW-WM1AM3 are equipped with 5.5-inch screens, offering up to 35 hours of MP3 playback or 31 hours of streaming. The NW-ZX900 features a 5-inch display with up to 40 hours of MP3 playback or 35 hours of streaming. Sony has not yet announced specific shipping dates for these devices.
