CNBC host Jim Cramer stated his preference for gold bullion over Bitcoin as a tool for portfolio insurance. During an episode of his show Mad Money, he suggested that investors looking to hedge their portfolios should prioritize gold or the SPDR Gold Shares ETF.
Despite his preference for gold, Cramer did not dismiss Bitcoin entirely. He identified Bitcoin and Ethereum as the only two vetted cryptocurrencies he considers acceptable, while warning investors against the risks associated with low-quality tokens and penny stocks.
Cramer provided this advice while outlining his general investment strategy, which involves splitting new capital between index funds and individual stocks. He noted that his recent stock picks are influenced by the current environment of rising interest rates.
The discussion comes amid broader market trends, as noted by Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas. In August, gold and Bitcoin ETFs saw record five-day inflows totaling $7 billion, highlighting the ongoing debate regarding asset allocation and hedging strategies.
