Australian firm Janus Electric is expanding its heavy-duty electric truck conversion services into the North American market. The company utilizes a battery-as-a-service model that allows fleet operators to swap depleted batteries for fresh ones in minutes, avoiding long charging wait times.
Canadian battery specialist Electrovaya has entered into a $26 million supply agreement with Janus Electric. This deal covers the initial phase of orders for the US and Canadian markets and utilizes Electrovaya’s proprietary Infinity Battery Technology, which is designed to support daily swapping cycles for Class 8 trucks.
As part of the strategic partnership, Electrovaya will invest approximately $1.4 million in Janus Electric. This investment secures up to 4.2 million shares and up to 6.3 million warrants, signaling a long-term commitment to scaling operations in the region.
Janus Electric currently holds 118 truck conversion orders and commitments across the US and Canada. To support this growth, Electrovaya is preparing to launch a new manufacturing facility in Jamestown, New York, which will produce lithium-ion battery cells, modules, and packs starting next year.
