Finnish company IQM Quantum Computers is set to install its Spark quantum system in South America for the first time. The hardware will be located at the Eldorado Research Institute in Campinas, Brazil, with deployment scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
The Spark system is designed for research and academic use, featuring superconducting circuits and a cryogenic unit that maintains temperatures near 20 milliKelvin. Alongside the local installation, the institute will gain remote access to a 54-qubit IQM system based in Europe.
The facility will allow Brazilian universities and industrial partners to develop quantum algorithms, software, and hybrid computing solutions. This project marks IQM's entry into the South American market, following previous installations in South Korea, Poland, Italy, and Taiwan.
IQM was founded in Helsinki in 2018. In July, the company began trading on the Nasdaq stock exchange after finalizing a merger with the SPAC Real Asset Acquisition Corp.
